FAQ
Q: I bought my jewelry at another store. Would you appraise it? A: We appraise antique, vintage & estate jewelry; as well as items that we sell in our store. Often, people would like to sell their items and in these cases, an appraisal is not needed.   Additionally, we do not appraise jewelry items that are mass manufactured by jewelry store chains, nor do we verify jewelry of other retailers.
Q: Do you charge for appraisals? A: Yes, we charge a fee to prepare the appraisal document and related work.
Q: What type of appraisals do you prepare? A: We prepare Replacement Value appraisals to be submitted to your insurance carrier. We prepare Fair Market Value appraisals commonly used for equitable distribution, decedent’s estate (such as the passing of a loved one) and charitable donations.
Q: Do I leave my jewelry item with Evearts when it’s to be appraised? A: In most cases, no. We’ll take needed measurements and collect data to prepare the appraisal. You can then take your item with you and we’ll continue the appraisal work at our office. If your item must remain with us, it will be logged and photographed. A receipt will be texted or emailed to you which then identifies the item at pick up.

Q: Will you appraise my jewelry before you purchase it? A: Â A written appraisal is not needed when selling items to us. We will provide a verbal quotation to buy your items.
Q: Can you size my finger? A:  We only offer finger sizing for rings purchased from Evearts or name brands we carry. This is because different ring anvils and sizers are not uniform. Our ring sizers are calibrated specifically to our workshop’s standards. Contrary to what one might assume, sizers can vary by ½ to ¾ sizes. Additionally, if a jeweler has had their anvil for a long time, it can wear down due to rust and regular use.
Q: Should you sell your valuables at a ‘Buying Event’ held by an Outside/Second-party buyer? A: These events are held at locations that bring in an Outside company. You should generally avoid selling your jewelry and items at these events. It’s best to sell to a reputable buyer that has been buying valuable items and treasures with great experience over time. Here's a breakdown of the drawbacks: Lower Prices: Jewelry buying events often aim to acquire items at a lower price than their actual market value to ensure a profit margin. They might offer a quick sale, but at the expense of potentially receiving significantly less than your item is worth. Lack of Expertise: Buyers at these events may not be specialized appraisers or have the credentials or in-depth knowledge of specific gemstones, metals, or jewelry styles needed to accurately assess the true value of your items. Pressure to Sell Quickly: The fast-paced nature of these events can put pressure on you to make a quick decision, potentially leading to accepting an offer that is lower than you would otherwise get if you took the time to explore other options. Limited Transparency: The process of appraisal and offer negotiation might lack transparency, leaving you unsure of how the buyer arrived at the offered price or whether you're getting a fair deal. Potential for Scams: While not always the case, there's a risk of encountering dishonest buyers at these events who might misrepresent the value of your jewelry or use deceptive tactics to get you to sell for less. And last but not least: The Outside Buyer and Host Store will have tremendous expenses and overhead. These costs will likely be passed on to You.
